LES BAOBABS, GÉANTS DES FORÊTS MALGACHES, EN DANGER

Six des huit espèces de baobabs décrites de par le monde sont endémiques de Madagascar. Véritable patrimoine mondial de la biodiversité, les géants sont actuellement menacées par l'agriculture sur brulis, le charbonnage et probablement le changement climatique. Sur place la situation est complexe. Les personnes qui pratiquent les brulis vivent dans une précarité extrême, loin de tout, sans information et livrées à elles-même. Six of the eight species of baobabs described all other the world are endemic to Madagascar. The giants are currently threatened by slash-and-burn agriculture, charcoal production and probably climate change. On the spot, the situation is complex. The people who practice burns live in extreme precariousness, far from everything, without information and abandoned to themselves. I was interviewed on the subject on July 19 by Sarah Tétaud on Radio France Internationale. The interview is online on the radio website.
