It's Emerald Ash Borer Awareness (EAB) Week. Emerald ash borer (EAB) looks harmless, but don’t let this metallic green foe fool you. EAB has left a path of destruction in its wake since it was identified in Michigan in 2002. Do you know how to tell if your ash trees are infested with EAB? Here are 5 ways to tell:
1. Stripping of bark by woodpeckers searching for the larvae.
2. Chewing damage on foliage edges.
3. Small “D-shaped” holes chewed through the bark by emerging adults.
4. S-shaped tunnels beneath the bark.
5. Multiple trunk sprouts with heavy infestation.
