Back in April, 1991 we made national news moving 2 of the largest trees ever transplanted. This is one of two Quercus geminata 48” and 52” caliper we dug and built 22’ x 22’ wood boxes around to contain the roots. Using specialized truck and trailer rigs, we moved the specimens together over 4 days and 3 nights approx 14 miles across Walt Disney World property to the Dixie Landings Resort site. Tree weights were estimated at 80,000 lbs. each, dimensions were approx 50’ tall and 70-80’ wide. The smaller oak was planted near the Project main entrance and the largest on Old Man Island as a centerpiece for the pool and water slides. These amazing 100-200 year old trees barely dropped a leaf in the process, and were dedicated on Arbor Day 1991! They are still thriving 30 years later, thanks to a dedicated team of tree lovers involved in planning, execution and maintenance from then until now!
